Shoulder Massage Technique

Stand behind your partner who sits on a straight-backed chair.  Then:

 

  • Place your hands on top of the shoulders with fingers facing forward.
     

  • Reach down with your thumbs and firmly roll the skin upwards towards the top.
     

  • The fingers in front hold firmly so that your partner does not lean forwards, but make sure that your finger tips do not dig in uncomfortably.
     

  • As you massage, keep the whole side of the thumb in contact, don't dig in with the tips.


Your partner will soon give you information about whether you are doing it correctly. You can include some kneading in this position. This is shown in the sitting position so that it can be done anywhere. But perhaps it is most effective when lying face downwards.
