Stand behind your partner, leaning
forward a little so that her head is resting against you. If you don't
do this she will have to tighten up neck muscles to keep her head
still.
-
Check to make sure her head is held in
the middle and is not bending forward or tilted to one side. Ask her to
close her eyes softly. Place your hands lightly on the forehead with
your fingertips touching in the middle. Wait a moment for you both to
quiet down then gently smooth your fingers outwards towards the
temples.
-
Do this several times and gradually the
tension frown disappears. Then move your hands alternately upwards from
just above the nose to the hair line. Keep one hand gently in contact
all the time.
-
Do all this slowly, rhythmically and very
softly. If your movements are fast or irregular it conveys a message of
anxiety and tension. When you have finished, your partner should keep
eyes closed for a short while to register the feeling of a relaxed
forehead so that she can reproduce this feeling herself when she wants
to relax. The forehead feels as if it were a little wider and a little
higher than before.
When your partner opens her eyes, she should try not to react sharply
to the light but to keep relaxed.
Finish with gentle stroking this way:
-
Cup your hands under the ears. With
your hand moulding gently to the shape of the neck, smooth down the
sides of the neck (this must be very gentle) and down the sides of the
upper arm. Do this a few times then do a slower stroke to end the
session.
-
These are a few simple massage procedures
which you can develop as you go on.
