Catnap

Lower your daytime arousal is the most important of all.  It is what happens during the day that affects your sleep. If you are a poor sleeper, one or two planned sessions of relaxation during the day are important.  It is too late to leave it until you are in bed with your mind churning with ideas.  Daytime distraction in the form of interludes of recreation and hobbies help to give relief from problems.  Don't be ashamed to have a daytime nap to catch up on lost sleep.

A Daytime Nap

Scientists and actors have regularly done this to improve their efficiency and to manage with only a few hours' sleep at night. Many people find that it acts as a sedative and helps sound night-time sleep. It takes some of the anxiety out of being awake at night if you know there is a chance to catch up.

Good sleepers may not need this but insomniacs can learn to catnap in the day.
